RE: The tariff classification of multimedia projectors from China

Dear Ms. Cohen:

In your letter dated January 18, 2013, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The subject merchandise, based on the submitted information, consists of two color DLP (digital light processing) projectors, models CP-DX250 and CP-DX300, each with an HDMI terminal for connection to various types of audio/video devices. Both models, which do not incorporate any recording or reproducing apparatus, contain a single .55-inch DMD imaging chip and have such various built-in connectors as computer and video inputs. Moreover, neither model contains a television tuner.

The applicable subheading for these multimedia projectors will be 8528.69.4500, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Monitors and projectors, not incorporating television reception apparatus…Projectors: Other: Color: With a flat panel screen: Other: With a video display diagonal not exceeding 34.29 cm. The rate of duty will be Free.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
